Science Sunday Conservation Lecture

The Secret Life of Northern Elephant Seals
12:30 pm - 1:30 pm, Osher Great Hall of the Lurie Education Center

Elephant seals are a true conservation success story as they have recovered from fewer than 25 animals in 1900 to over 200,000 individuals today. While early work was limited to studies of their breeding biology on beaches, the development of electronic tags has allowed us to follow these animals when they are thousands of miles at sea diving to depths over 1 mile for up to almost 2 hours! Join us as we discuss what these amazing
diving machines do, and how they do it.
