GOLDEN GATE NATIONAL RECREATION AREA ENDANGERED SPECIES BIG YEAR Free Kick-off Party! January 6 1 p.m. Meet at the Bernard Osher Great Hall, SF Zoo
(Click here to download the beautiful poster pictured below!)
Join us for a hike to Ocean Beach to see western snowy plovers. Meet endangered species success stories like a Bald Eagle and Peregrine Falcon, as well as a Big Year species that still needs your help, North America's most beautiful serpent - the San Francisco Garter Snake. Load-up on some snacks and beverages, and then take an easy hike across the street for your first Big Year species: the threatened western snowy plover, which clings to survival at the GGNRA's Ocean Beach.
The 2008 Golden Gate National Recreation Area Endangered Species Big Year is a race against time to see and save each of the Park's endangered species.
The GGNRA contains more endangered species than any other national park in continental North America: more than Yellowstone, Yosemite, Kings Canyon, & Sequoia National Parks combined.
This is both cause for celebration and concern, and the 2008 GGNRA Endangered Species Big Year is your chance to learn more about these incredible species while helping them recover.
