SUMMARY:Earthfest
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Earth Day all weekend long and visit our pop-up village of conservation partners and activities. This year\, the Zoo will welcome special guest organizations at its pop-up EarthFest village. The event also features live entertainment by celebrated musician\, Dave Amato\, plus activities and more. \nEarthFest which takes place each day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.\, is an opportunity for the Zoo and its partners to share information about the importance of living sustainably\, available community services and resources\, and conservation efforts taking place locally and globally. Zoo departments will also be on hand to give guests insight on how they keep the Zoo maintained\, how they care for animals\, and the Zoo’s own conservation initiatives\, giving back to the planet. \nParticipating organizations include The Marine Mammal Center\, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service\, National Wildlife Federation\, San Francisco Transit Riders\, Safe Rides to School\, Recology\, Muskwa Club\, CPALI – Conservation Through Poverty Alleviation International\, American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK)\, and various Zoo departments\, including Horticulture\, Conservation\, Environmental Services\, and SF Zoo Docents. \nIn addition\, PawSpace\, whose app is a one-stop solution for pet-parents and their needs\, will be collecting gently-used pet items (leashes\, collars\, toys\, bowls\, small accessories) during EarthFest. Through the PawSpace Foundation\, they deliver donated pet supplies directly to shelters\, rescues\, and foster families in need. \nThe Zoo will also be collecting old electronic devices\, such as cell phones and tablets\, for its Gorillas on the Line campaign benefiting gorilla conservation. \nEarthFest Weekend is free with paid Zoo admission.

SUMMARY:BioBlitz
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the inaugural San Francisco Zoo & Gardens BioBlitz! \nThe San Francisco Zoo encompasses 100 acres of gardens\, trees\, meadows\, dunes\, and ponds. Situated between Lake Merced and Ocean Beach\, the Zoo is a great place to spot a wide variety of local birds\, insects\, mushrooms\, reptiles\, and plants. \nVisit www.inaturalist.org/projects/wild-about-the-san-francisco-zoo to see the nearly 500 wild species that have been identified on grounds so far. \nParticipation is easy. Download the free iNaturalist app and submit photos of wild species that you see throughout your visit. The app will compare similar local species and suggest identifications. Our San Francisco Zoo BioBlitz Project will automatically accumulate all observations made on grounds during the event. \nPlease note that this event is only for observing wild species\, not the zoo animals or cultivated plants on grounds. \nThere will be a presentation at 10 am in the Great Hall near the main entrance. Come learn about some of the amazing wild species that you can hope to see while you stroll around the zoo. By participating in this citizen science project\, you will help us to understand the diversity of species that are found in this special corner of San Francisco. The first 500 participants will receive a collectable button! \nFor questions\, contact Director of Global Conservation Patrick Schlemmer at PatrickS@sfzoo.org.
