- Blue Death Feigning Beetles are known to live up to 10 years.
- Their blue color comes from a waxy secretion on their exoskeleton that serves as a shield against the desert heat. This blue changes color from a light blue to a bright blue depending on the weather conditions.
- They are a long-lived beetle species, and can live up to 8 years. There was an individual that was recorded surviving up to 17 years.
身体特征
The steel gray to blue color of these beetles helps them to blend into their habitat. If they get wet they turn a flat black color, but their ghostly, pale blue coloration reappears after they dry out.
栖息地
These beetles are found in the southwestern region of the United States, usually around areas of water.
饮食
They are opportunistic and will feed on vegetation or dead animal matter.
社交行为
When startled, the beetle will fall over and feign death (pretend to die) with its legs up in the air and its body will become extremely rigid. After a short time, once the beetle senses no danger, it will begin moving and right itself.

They are common and are not endangered.
