Hours

Gates open for reserved times starting at 10:00am. The Zoo closes at 5:00 pm, last entry is at 4:00pm. To visit, visitors on weekends and holidays are asked to reserve a date and time. Thank you for your continued support.

Take Muni and Get a Discount

We encourage you to use public transportation when visiting us. Visitors who take Muni to the Zoo receive a $1 discount off the price of admission. Just show your same-day Muni receipt, transfer, or monthly pass at the ticket window. Within San Francisco, take the Muni L Taraval line outbound to the Zoo. Muni bus lines 23 and 18 also stop at the Zoo. Use the SFMTA Trip Planner sfmta.com/drive-park for directions.

Retired and active military personnel receive San Francisco resident rates.

Free Days are not being offered at this time.

Groups and Field Trips

Unfortunately, at this time, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are not able to offer field trips or group reservations. If your group still would like to come to the Zoo, all ticketing is being done online individually, up to two weeks in advance.

Docent Tours

Our docent guides lead educational walking tours for school groups of 15 or more (subject to availability). Tours are available during the months of September through March (subject to change) and tour topics correlate with current California Science Content Standards (SCS). Requests must be made at least 4 weeks in advance of visit. For more information and to schedule a docent tour for your school group, please call (415) 753-7122 or e-mail [email protected].

 

Reduced Admission for San Francisco Residents

Through a partnership with the City and County of San Francisco, the San Francisco Zoo is pleased to offer reduced daily admission tickets.

Proof of San Francisco residency is required and can be established by providing one of the following:

  • A valid driver’s license
  • A valid identification card
  • A utility, phone, or other local bill with your name and address, along with a current, valid photo I.D.
  • Free days for SF Residents — At this time, traditional Free Days at SF Zoo & Gardens have been suspended due to the pandemic. Currently, all guests must book an advance reservation in order to visit and with our limited capacity restrictions, we are unable to safely accommodate the Free Day program. Free Days will resume in the future. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Affordable Access Programs

Please check with your local health and human services agency to see if you qualify for the program below.

  • SNAP EBT/WIC Benefit: As part of the Museums for All cooperative, the SF Zoo offers $3 Admission tickets to SNAP EBT and WIC cardholders every day of the year. Please present the following at the ticket windows to purchase your tickets:
  • A valid driver’s license or identification card
  • A valid SNAP EBT card or WIC card
  • Cardholder must be present for purchase
  • Not accepted: P-EBT cards and Medi-Cal

Museums for All tickets are not available online and must be purchased in person at the ticket windows. Limit 4 per group per visit. Not valid for special events, cannot be combined with any other offer, and tickets only valid the day of purchase.

Construction Updates

Big changes are happening at your Zoo! We will be open during the construction of the new Madagascar Center, and Snow Leopard Expansion, but some pathways and animal exhibits may be closed on a day to day basis.  We apologize in advance for any inconvenience. Learn more about what is to come here.
