Hours & admission

The Zoo is open every day of the year, including holidays, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Last entry for general admission is 4:00 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. for members. Tickets can be purchased online in advance or at the main gate ticket window on the day of your visit. Buying online is the easiest way to skip the line and get straight to the good stuff.

Proof of San Francisco residency is required. Accepted forms of ID include a valid driver’s license, government-issued ID card, or a utility or phone bill with your name and current address, along with a valid photo ID.

Other discounts & access passes

Retired and active military personnel, and students ages 12 through college, receive San Francisco resident admission rates.

San Francisco residents with an EBT/SNAP or Medi-Cal card can buy up to four tickets for $3 each. The named cardholder must show the card and proof of San Francisco residency. Non-residents with an EBT/SNAP card can buy up to four tickets for $5 each with matching photo ID. These tickets must be purchased in person at the ticket windows. P-EBT, SUN Bucks, WIC, and Medi-Cal for non-residents do not qualify.

The Discover & Go program offers free Zoo passes through San Francisco Public Library and other local libraries. Check Discover & Go for availability. San Francisco resident free days are announced on the Zoo calendar.

Getting here & parking

San Francisco Zoo & Gardens is located at Sloat Blvd. at the Great Highway, in the southwestern corner of the city, just steps from the Pacific Ocean.

By car

Parking is available on site for $15 on weekdays and $20 on weekends and holidays. Disabled guests may park free with a valid disabled placard. Please note there are no in-and-out privileges.

By public transit

We encourage visitors to take public transit when possible. Visitors arriving by Muni receive a $1 discount off admission, just show your same-day Muni receipt, transfer, or monthly pass at the ticket window. Within San Francisco, take the L Taraval line outbound to the Zoo. Muni bus lines 23 and 18 also stop nearby.

Accessibility

The Zoo is committed to being welcoming and accessible to all guests. Guests with disabilities receive SF resident admission rates. Stroller and wheelchair rentals are available at the Friend and Taube Family Entry Village. We also offer a Neurodiversity Program, including a downloadable sensory guide and a complimentary sensory bag, available for checkout at the Membership Office, to help guests with heightened sensitivities navigate their visit comfortably.

The Zoo remains open rain or shine. If you choose not to visit due to the weather, pre-paid tickets can be used for up to 30 days from your original visit date. Bring your original reservation to the ticket windows to redeem. On occasion, inclement weather may dictate an early closure.

Yes, guests are welcome to bring their own food and beverages. Glass containers and alcohol are not permitted. Dining is also available on site at the Leaping Lemur Café, open daily, with additional food outlets open on weekends.

Pets are not permitted on Zoo grounds, as they can pose a health risk to the animals. Trained service animals are welcome throughout the Zoo, with the exception of areas where animals roam freely.
